About
I’ve been called a dreamer, iconoclast, troublemaker and worse. I tend to follow my instincts and have a persistent streak that has paid off enough times that I’ve learned to keep on trucking when things get tough.
Growing up, I enjoyed a bit of a Tom Sawyer lifestyle; navigating the neighborhood bayou in a pirogue with BB gun in hand — yes I grew up in Louisiana! :) While there aren’t as many dirt trails these days for riding motorcycles in town, I’m trying to convince my kids there’s more to life than TV and video games.
I’ve been addicted to technology since early days of my youth spent pouring through the pages Popular Science (pre-iPad edition) and getting my first computer: a VIC-20 (later traded for the CPM-capable C-128 and then on to an AMIGA 1000 for college -wOOt!)
I’ve worked with mobile applications, wireless data networks, RFID, and generally enjoy applying technology to make everyday life easier and/or more fun. I once learned BASIC on the Apple II but never found my groove as a developer. Alas, a stack of ’learn to code’ books on PHP, Obj-C, and Ruby can be found collecting dust on my loaner book shelves.
As an entrepreneur, I’m the founder of Dynamo Labs, a social web company and round-one recipient of Facebook’s fbFund backed by Accel Partners and the Founders Fund. Our first product, Challenge app, was profiled at Facebook f8 08 in San Francisco.
I’m also the founder of CoHabitat, the startup community and co-working concept for developers, creatives and entrepreneurs. Our Dallas space is a 100-year old house located in the historic State-Thomas neighborhood in Uptown Dallas. I can’t imagine working anywhere else! More information about us can be found on our Dallas Facebook page.
In early 2010, CoHabitat expanded to Louisiana with a 5,000 square foot space on Shreveport’s historic riverfront thanks to generous support from the Downtown Development Authority and the Greater Bossier Economic Development Foundation. Together with partner, John Grindley, we operate that space and the CoHabitat Foundation. You can learn more about the Shreveport project on our Facebook page.
